About Home Wildfire Defender

IMG_4602.jpeg

Home Wildfire Defender was founded by James Young, MBA,  in the wake of the catastrophic Los Angeles fires, where emergency response was overwhelmed and over 16,000 homes were lost, leaving thousands of residents, many of them under insured, without a home. The fact is, it didn't have to happen this way, to be so catastrophic. What happened in LA could happen here in Marin but as individuals, and in community, we can take relatively simple steps to reduce our risk.

After a career spanning technology sales at Oracle headquarters and later founding and managing a real estate brokerage in the exclusive Hamptons market James' skill set straddles the juncture of technology, property and elite client service. Certified by the National Fire Prevention Association as a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, he is available to inspect your property, assess your primary vulnerabilities and provide project oversight from kickoff through final delivery and documentation.

Harden your home Bushes and trees against the house increase wildfire risk

James walked with me around my Mill Valley home, evaluating protective measures already taken (steel mesh over attic vents, concrete footings, adequate irrigation, pruning of low ‘fire ladder’ tree branches, etc), and measures that would be cost-effective and which he recommended (trim overhanging tree branches, replace wood gates that could conduct surrounding fire to my house, use non-flammable mulch, etc). James’s inspection gave me a good idea of my vulnerability to wildfire and what I can do to reduce it.

Joel Miller, Mill Valley

Due to heightened concerns about both wildfire and home insurance, I had my home inspected to reveal vulnerabilities and steps I could take to mitigate them. James conducted a thorough and knowledgeable home inspection, and his report and suggestions gave me immediate and concrete measures I could take to protect my home. Thank you, James
